Katharine Gowers is a star of the violin world, with flawless technique, wonderful sound and a big personality. She has an unerring knack of finding and communicating the lyrical heart of any piece of music.

Since he last appeared at Roman River Festival, Simon Crawford-Phillips has played at the Wigmore Hall, toured some of the major concert halls of Europe, made two CDs, and made his debut directing the performance from the keyboard.

The programme is full of contrasts and surprises. The Enescu Sonata is romantic and expressive, with soaring melodies and sweeping piano writing. The playful early Suite by Benjamin Britten is full of tongue-in-cheek surprises. The dramatic sonata by Janáçek will be a fascinating foil to the beautiful moonlit sonata by Debussy.
